BIBLE PROPHECY
November 22, 2016
With Thanksgiving Day around the corner, we should begin to reflect on all we are thankful for. Too many times we allow the cares of this world to sidetrack us and make us overlook how good God has been. I bet you can think of half a dozen people who are complainers. Nothing can ever be right. There’s no satisfying them! How many thankful people do you know? Set your mind to be the person with a grateful heart.
Whenever the Bible talks about murmuring or complaining, it never ended well. The Word of God instructs us to be without grumbling, faultfinding and/or complaining against God! Whenever you complain about something, you do it against our Heavenly Father! The mere fact that you’re still on this earth is enough to be thankful for! When you make a habit of whining and complaining about how terrible your life is, God is listening. Please don’t allow yourself to go down this slippery slope. Few bounce back from a heart full of ungratefulness and complaint.
According to 1 Corinthians 10:10, “We must not complain against God as some of them did. That is why they were destroyed.” There is a curse that comes along with your complaining. Being ungrateful will open the door to an attack on your body. It’s the start of your downward trajectory.
Where will your complaining lead you? Glad you asked.
Discontentment- This is when nothing can satisfy you or bring you to a place of feeling like you don’t need more or anything else. This is critical. If you begin to harbor these feelings nothing, and I mean nothing, good will come out of it. Hebrews 13:5 says, “Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Being content with what you have will guarantee your peace and success in life. More things won’t make things better. People won’t bring you fulfillment. God is the source of all you’ll ever need. 1 Timothy 6:7-8 says, ”For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain[ we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content.” Do you have food and clothing? Then BE THANKFUL!
Selfishness- Discontentment then leads you into selfishness. When someone becomes selfish, nothing or no one will get in their way of trying to fulfill their happiness. This is the major reason America is in the state it’s in, selfishness. 2 Timothy 3:2-4 says,” For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God”. Nothing is at stake for people who are selfish. They simply go based on what feels good. They throw away responsibility and righteousness for a feeling of pleasure.
Don’t allow complaining to have any place in your life. Quit focusing on the negative. You’re alive, aren’t you? Do you have clothes and food in your belly? Do you have a roof over your head? Are you able to read this devotional? You have so much to be thankful for! Don’t wait until Thanksgiving to be thankful, start NOW!
