Did you know that scripture was in the Word of God?! Listen, the LAST thing I’d want to be doing is insulting my Maker. If you’re one who’s ever mocked or puffed yourself up at the expense of someone who’s doing or has less than you….READ ON!

When I hear people talk about the poor I often wonder if the love of God is found in their heart. I’m not talking about poverty, I’m talking about individual people. Poverty and people must be looked at with different views. There’s a spirit of poverty that tries to oppress people. The results leave people hopeless, afraid and angry. Nothing good is produced when someone is hopeless, afraid or angry! That’s why Jesus came! Luke 4:18 says, “The Spirit of the LORD is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free”. What’s the Good News to the poor? “he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich” 2 Cor. 8:9.

Your job as a believer isn’t to look down on someone who’s on welfare with disgust. Your job as Christian isn’t to make snide remarks as to why people don’t have jobs or own homes like you do. Are there some people abusing the system? Oh yes! Are there some people who’ve made stupid choices along the way? Most definitely. Are there some people who are just flat out lazy? You bet. But there are some who’ve been dealt a crappy hand in life. 

From birth, these people have had an uphill battle. No father, a mother who’s in jail, and an uncle that sexually abused them. They have had to raise themselves without the blessing of people who love and genuinely care about them. They’ve had to live their lives apart from God. What if that was you? 

Anyone can see fake from a mile away. People of every background KNOW if you truly love and care for them. As a Christian, we are mandated by God to love our neighbors as OURSELVES (Mark 12:31). Romans 12:9-10 says, “Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.” 
It’s the goodness of God that draws men to repentance (Romans 2:4). We must hate what’s evil and fight to expose the devil until the day Jesus takes us home. We must also LOVE people. 1 Cor. 13:1 says, “If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.” The number one reason for your ministry and life should be found in the love you have for individual people. Remember that the next time you’re tempted to speak a harsh word against someone. Don’t be a spoiled brat. Take into consideration what people have had to deal with in life. 1 Peter 4:8 “Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins.”
