“Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, “We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.” But the men who had gone up with him said, “We can’t attack those people; they are stronger than we are.” And they spread among the Israelites a bad report about the land they had explored. They said, “The land we explored devours those living in it. All the people we saw there are of great size. We saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them.””

 

God had sent 12 spies to scope out the Promise Land. Out of the 12, only two came back with a good report. This Promise Land was just that, a land God promised to give His people. Verse 2 of the same chapter in Numbers says, “Send some men to explore the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the Israelites. From each ancestral tribe send one of its leaders.” See. God told them to scope out the land He was “GIVING TO THE ISRAELITES.”

Instead of being totally amazed at the incredible land they were inheriting, ten of these men were scared! Can you imagine roaming the desert for forty years then being too scared to go into the land that God had GIVEN you? If I were Caleb or Joshua, I would have slapped all ten of those losers. Fear will always make you think of loss. 

Think about this, though, the Israelites were practically nomads. They kept roaming around for FORTY YEARS. FORTY! They had no place to call their own. They literally had nothing to lose. Then, think of all the miracles, signs, and wonders they had seen. They were alive and well because God had supernaturally sustained them. 

Joshua and Caleb saw the exact same things they did. What was the difference? Their FAITH! Faith will always make you think of gain. The power of faith always adds things to your life. The power of fear will always take things from your life. Living in fear is something you must get rid of immediately. 

The next time fear knocks at the door, answer it with the Word of God! If your kid doesn’t answer your phone call on the first two rings, fight the urge to worry. If you get on a plane and thoughts of death and fear get stirred up, resist the urge to entertain them. When you combat that fear with scripture, you’ll always win. 

As you begin to eradicate fear from your life, start thinking faith! Think of the incredible dreams you’ll fulfill. Dwell on the success of your business! Stay focused on the wonderful things your children will accomplish. STAY IN FAITH. THINK FAITH.
