BIBLE PROPHECY
May 29, 2019
This is one of the most frequently asked questions that come in- How can I hear the voice of God? How can I really know what God wants me to do?
Romans 4:18-20 “Even when there was no reason for hope, Abraham kept hoping—believing that he would become the father of many nations. For God had said to him, “That’s how many descendants you will have!” 19 And Abraham’s faith did not weaken, even though, at about 100 years of age, he figured his body was as good as dead—and so was Sarah’s womb.20 Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God.”
The early church functioned by hearing God’s voice. God wants you to be able to hear His voice.
Romans 8:26-39 “And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. 27 And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will. 28 And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. 29 For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. 30 And having chosen them, he called them to come to him. And having called them, he gave them right standing with himself. And having given them right standing, he gave them his glory.
31 What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? 32 Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else? 33 Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own? No one—for God himself has given us right standing with himself. 34 Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us.
35 Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? 36 (As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”[d] 37 No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.
38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[ neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 8:1-14 “So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. 2 And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death. 3 The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature. So God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins. 4 He did this so that the just requirement of the law would be fully satisfied for us, who no longer follow our sinful nature but instead follow the Spirit.
The Bible is telling you that all this victory is dependant on you following the Spirit.
Continuing with verse 5:
“5 Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. 6 So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace. 7 For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God’s laws, and it never will. 8 That’s why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God.
9 But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. (And remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them do not belong to him at all.) 10 And Christ lives within you, so even though your body will die because of sin, the Spirit gives you life[d] because you have been made right with God. 11 The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.
12 Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do. 13 For if you live by its dictates, you will die. But if through the power of the Spirit you put to death the deeds of your sinful nature, you will live. 14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.”
So how can you hear God’s voice?
First, you have to know that you have a birthright as a child of God to hear God’s voice. As a child of God, God’s Spirit dwells within you, and you have the ability to tune in to that frequency.
If you have a dog and are watching the news on television, your dog cannot understand what the newscaster is saying because a dog is not human. When you watch the news, you can hear and understand what they are saying because you are a human. When you become born again, you are no longer a human, you are born of the Spirit and you are tuned into that frequency and you can hear the voice of God.
It’s not a special thing to hear God’s voice, it’s the order of the day. The Bible said that Abraham believed the things that were spoken to him. Hearing the voice of God puts your faith on a whole new level because when you know that God has spoken to you, you know that you cannot be denied.
When faith becomes something born of the Spirit in you, the Bible says this is the victory that overcomes the world. The secret of Abraham’s faith is that he believed those things that were spoken to him. If you want to step into this realm, you will be mocked because the devil wants you to stay in a powerless Christian life.
Recently on The View Joy Behar said that ‘hearing from Jesus’ is a ‘mental illness’, and then proceeded to mock both Christians and Christianity. If the devil goes out of his way to mock something, it’s a good idea to pay attention.
John 14:26 “But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you. 27 I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid. 28 Remember what I told you: I am going away, but I will come back to you again. If you really loved me, you would be happy that I am going to the Father, who is greater than I am. 29 I have told you these things before they happen so that when they do happen, you will believe.
30 “I don’t have much more time to talk to you, because the ruler of this world approaches. He has no power over me, 31 but I will do what the Father requires of me, so that the world will know that I love the Father. Come, let’s be going.”
John 16: 5-13 “But now I am going away to the one who sent me, and not one of you is asking where I am going. 6 Instead, you grieve because of what I’ve told you. 7 But in fact, it is best for you that I go away, because if I don’t, the Advocate won’t come. If I do go away, then I will send him to you. 8 And when he comes, he will convict the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment. 9 The world’s sin is that it refuses to believe in me.10 Righteousness is available because I go to the Father, and you will see me no more.11 Judgment will come because the ruler of this world has already been judged.
12 “There is so much more I want to tell you, but you can’t bear it now. 13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future.”
Everyone wants to know the future. Too many Christians are more familiar with their astrological sign then they are with the voice of the Holy Spirit. You don’t have to consult the stars when you can commune with the creator of the stars!
7 Practical & Scriptural Ways You Can Hear God’s Voice:
One. Be consecrated to the Lord verbally in holiness
Be consecrated to the Lord verbally in holiness that you won’t sin. Sin will deafen your spiritual ear, and sin will deafen your ability to hear the voice of God. Sin breaks fellowship with God. If we live in sin, we are not abiding in Christ, and we are not abiding in the vine, and we lose our ability to hear the voice of God. Wholly give yourself to the Lord!
Two. Be consecrated to the Lord verbally in His work.
John 15: 1-5 “I am the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more. 3 You have already been pruned and purified by the message I have given you. 4 Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.
5 “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.”
John 9: 4-5 “We must quickly carry out the tasks assigned us by the one who sent us. The night is coming, and then no one can work. 5 But while I am here in the world, I am the light of the world.”
Everything you do in life is tied into the Great Commission. You remain in Him. He is the vine, and you are the branches. His Will is for you to produce much fruit. If your life is not tied into the Great Commission than you will not hear the voice of God, because you are off doing your own thing! You have to be connected to what God wants done, and you have to be connected to the body of Christ.
Most people (and Christians) are disconnected from the body of Christ with spotty church attendance, they are uninvolved, and they are not actively engaged in the work of the Lord. When you become actively engaged in soul-winning, healing the sick, and casting out devils God will speak to you because you are no longer living life your own way.
If you have a business and that business is tithing like Abraham’s did, now it becomes in God’s best interest to make sure you’re going up because now you’re connected to Him and so He will speak to you! He will give you wise instruction because you have made Him your partner in your business!
Three. Get yourself wrapped up in the work of the Lord. Obsess about it. Everyone isn’t called to fulltime ministry- so if you own a business- how much of your business income went to soul-winning last year? How is your life wrapped up with the Great Commission?
Don’t sit and complain that you cannot hear the voice of God when you have not been obedient in following the most basic of instructions given to us in the Bible. You don’t get specific instructions until you follow the general instructions. Why would God give you further guidance when you haven’t listened to the foundational commandments?
Four. You have to be in the presence of God.
If you want to hear the voice of God, you must be in His presence.
1 Samuel 3:10-14 “And the Lord came and called as before, “Samuel! Samuel!”
And Samuel replied, “Speak, your servant is listening.”
11 Then the Lord said to Samuel, “I am about to do a shocking thing in Israel. 12 I am going to carry out all my threats against Eli and his family, from beginning to end. 13 I have warned him that judgment is coming upon his family forever, because his sons are blaspheming God and he hasn’t disciplined them. 14 So I have vowed that the sins of Eli and his sons will never be forgiven by sacrifices or offerings.”
Then go to verses 17 & 18: “What did the Lord say to you? Tell me everything. And may God strike you and even kill you if you hide anything from me!” 18 So Samuel told Eli everything; he didn’t hold anything back. “It is the Lord’s will,” Eli replied. “Let him do what he thinks best.”
Jesus said that when the Holy Spirit speaks to you, He will tell you the things to come. When He speaks to you, He speaks of things to come- not about things in the past.
Be where the presence of God is. Get out of a dead church. If you’ve never felt God’s presence and you’re saved, then you need to check where you go to church.
Now to lead into numbers 5, 6, and 7, you must understand that divine leading is a function of the Holy Ghost. Hearing God’s voice is a function of the Holy Spirit.
Five. You must be baptized in the Holy Spirit.
John 7:37-38 “In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. 38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.) (KJV)
That “river” flows out of you in tongues. You can see it in Acts 2. Tongues is a mark of our dispensation.
Six. Pray in the Holy Spirit. Once you are baptized in the Holy Spirit, you need to pray in the Holy Spirit.
1 Corinthians 14:39 “So, my dear brothers and sisters, be eager to prophesy, and don’t forbid speaking in tongues.”
You can’t go through the Christian life guessing, you have to hear the clear instruction of the Lord.
Seven. Your financial covenant.
